how much alkaline food should be in dietWhat is alkaline food? Alkaline food is food like vegetables, fruits, legumes and beans. The reason they are called alkaline is because they are turned into alkaline on digestion. They effect the body is in a gentle way and the more alkaline in the diet the better.

I recently had a discussion with a nutritionist and they were saying that for a perfect healthy diet we should be eating 20% Acid food to 80% Alkaline.

Even though i haven’t been too strict i have noticed in the 2 weeks of doing the diet i feel really good. The most noticeable aspect is i feel i have a lot more energy. That’s always a bonus. Some examples of alkaline and acid foods are below.

Alkaline Foods (80% diet) -

  • Apples
  • Oranges
  • Lettuce
  • Tomatoe
  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Beans
  • Lentils
  • Legumes
  • Potato

Acid Foods (20% diet) -

  • Meat
  • Pasta
  • Rice (mild acid)
  • Cheese
  • Milk products
  • Rye
  • Wheat

The above ones are examples of some of the food in each category. I didn’t mention all the acids and alkaline, ( i would be writing for weeks otherwise) only some common foods to give you a general idea.
