Twitter just got more Viral with Retweet!

retweet exampleTwitter just went way more Viral. How is this possible you may ask? Retweet is the answer.. If you look at the top of this post near the heading you will notice I have just started using this service and wanted to share some thoughts on the cool retweet feature.

The Benefits of Retweet

First of all Retweet accurately judges how many times a post has been tweeted in Twitter and displays it on your website as well as allows any visitor who is part of Twitter to quickly submit a cool post to their Twitter updates to share. I think in a lot of ways the tool is brilliant and I expect it will dramatically improve my Twitter traffic as well as anyone that uses the feature. In particular what makes it stand out from others is that it has many viral aspects allowing a tweet to be shared to another Twitterer easily and then shared again to another. And if you want more TRAFFIC, VIRAL is a great way..

“The best part I like is it shows the Tweets per post numbered on your own blog. That way it stands out more than other Twitter share features available out there and also enhances a websites social appeal.. “

The Downside of Retweet

Unfortunately there is one downside, when a Tweet is Twittered from a visitor a RT@tweetmeme appears at the beginning of the Tweet. I know this shares the creators of the service but having at at the beginning looks annoying in a Tweet. If however it was changed to at the end (like a credit) of a tweet it would look a lot better if you asked me.. Other than that the feature is awesome.

To add to your Blog or Website

To add to your blog or website is quite easy, simply just add the code below to where you want in your theme.

For a standard Retweet Button – The Big Button

<script type=“text/javascript” src=“http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script>

For a Compact Version of the Button ( Like on this Post)

<script type=”text/javascript”>
tweetmeme_style = ‘compact’;
</script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script>

As an example you can add the code to single.php (wordpress only) in themes to only show up on all your posts like here. If you want similar to my style as used here just add the code after heading details like as seen below within the code –

<p class=”PostInfo”>Written by <?php the_author() ?> in <em><?php the_category(‘, ‘) ?></em><span style=”float: right”><script type=”text/javascript”>
tweetmeme_style = ‘compact’;
</script>
<script type=”text/javascript” src=”http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js”></script></span>
</div>
<div class=”PostContent”>

Retweet WordPress Plugin

There is also a plugin for wordpress, for those that do not wish to play with code at all. This is located at wordpress here and is a very easy to install and get going plugin, just download, upload to plugin to your plugins folder on your server and then activate it in settings and then adjust the settings to where you want it to be.

I will have to wait and see how the feature helps traffic levels, however I am pretty confident Retweet is another great way to increase traffic in a viral way to our blogs or websites… Enjoy..
